a bench to provide a chance to change the soundscape of the city and to invite communities to participate in changing it with us.
available at A5 from May 7, 2022 on.
as design anthropology students we participated in a Soundwalk which brought our attention to the sounds which surround us. Walking through urban areas, we were struck by the lack of community and nature sounds.
we built this bench to provide a chance to change the soundscape of the city and to invite communities to participate in changing it with us. It is an opportunity to reclaim the city – grab a pylon and take back a block for an impromptu soccer game, or pull out a stool and enjoy an afternoon chat with your neighbours.
on the left, you can find a handbook we design with information on what the project is and how to use “case for community”.
here are a few fast facts:
WHAT: this bench is a symbol for our commitment to community and meeting a community where it is at. The items are curated with awareness of location and are chosen to encourage community growth based on local needs and to strengthen connections with each other and the urban environment. It is an invitation to claim the city and make it your own.
HOW: want your own bench for your neighbourhood? Reach out to Case for Community with your request and we will be happy to work with you and find a community partner, and curate a bench which will help you reclaim your part of the city.
